Annetta Cheek, you’re my hero!
Haven’t we all picked up a legal document or academic journal, attempted to wade through the pretentious gobbledygook and thought “Why can’t they just say this in English?”?
If you have, then I’d like to let you know that you’ve got a champion who’s working hard to make that happen: Annetta Cheek, the co-founder of the Center for Plain Language. Cheek got the 2010 Plain Writing Act passed (who even knew this existed?) and will continue to slay the dragon that is governmental opacity. Will she attempt to do the same for academia—nah, it’s too hard!
